Hohmann Fine Art, known simply as HOHMANN, is a contemporary art gallery in the heart of Southern California, dedicated to providing an exceptional experience for collectors both in person and online.

Founded in 1976 in Germany, HOHMANN remains a family-owned and operated gallery that is now in its second generation. Our flagship 9,000-square-foot, museum-style gallery in Palm Desert is a premier destination for contemporary art, housing an extensive onsite collection representing more than 100 artists. To further connect with the community, we also maintain a satellite space in Palm Springs directly across from the Palm Springs Art Museum.

We are committed to ensuring that our collectors and clients receive the highest level of service. We offer worldwide shipping and have built a trusted network of art handlers and installers in all major areas. Locally, our highly trained team can take on even the most ambitious projects. We actively collaborate with collectors and consultants across the United States, specializing in seamless long-distance service.

While no appointment is required to visit our gallery, we are happy to set aside dedicated time to make your first visit truly memorable. Let us know you're coming, and we can provide a personalized, in-depth experience, including an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at our warehouse. Whether you're a seasoned collector or new to contemporary art, our team is here to guide you.

Our dedication to supporting artists and enriching the art world extends beyond our gallery walls. We publish exhibition catalogs, collaborate with museums and institutions, place works in private and public collections, participate in select art fairs, and host curated exhibitions throughout the year.

We invite you to sign up for our newsletter (once or twice a month) and follow us on Instagram to stay connected. Our website is for educational purposes only. When you're ready to move from admiration to acquisition, start the conversation by planning your visit or getting in touch. We can give you access to available works and new arrivals.

Larry Kagan

Don’t miss to see In the Shadows, a solo exhibition featuring the innovative shadow sculptures of renowned artist Larry Kagan. Running through March 28, this exhibition showcases Kagan’s masterful ability to transform steel and light into striking, illusionary images.

Born in 1946 in a refugee camp in Germany, Kagan’s life was shaped by absence—the missing family members lost to history. His sculptures reflect this theme of presence and disappearance, where seemingly chaotic steel structures cast precise, fleeting shadows when illuminated. “They were shadows,” Kagan has said. “They existed, but they didn’t really. As soon as the light goes off, there’s nothing there.”

In the Shadows marks Kagan’s first solo exhibition at Hohmann Fine Art. “Larry’s work is mesmerizing—it challenges perception and invites curiosity,” says gallery director Christian Hohmann. “His sculptures make us question what is real and what is illusion.” A short video, posted on Instagram, has already garnered more than 50,000 views: INSTAGRAM

EXHIBITIONS

Exhibitions are at the heart of connecting artists and collectors. While most of our openings are by invitation only, our galleries are open to the public—Monday through Friday in Palm Desert and Thursday through Sunday in Palm Springs. We invite you to visit and explore our exhibitions at your convenience.

Beyond our gallery spaces, we also organize exhibitions for our artists at museums, institutions, and public collections, and we occasionally participate in national and international art fairs. If you’re unable to visit in person, we’d be happy to schedule a call to introduce you to our private website.

If you're considering acquiring a piece, the best way to begin is by reaching out to us. Scheduling a visit or a phone call allows us to set aside time to answer your questions and provide a personal tour of the gallery or an introduction to our private website. We look forward to welcoming you.
